Fresh tattoo care

Tattoo Aftercare

Your aftercare starts with the instructions you receive at the appointment. The dressing used, tattoo placement, and your skin can change the details, so treat this as a general reference.

The short answer

Clean hands, gentle care, and patience.

Follow the instructions for your specific covering, keep the tattoo clean without scrubbing, apply only a light amount of the recommended moisturizer, and avoid picking, soaking, and direct sun while it heals.

Daily care

A simple routine

  1. Wash your handsClean your hands thoroughly before touching the tattoo or its covering.
  2. Follow the covering instructionsLeave it in place for the time Felicia recommends. Do not re-cover the tattoo unless instructed.
  3. Clean gentlyAfter removal, rinse or wash the area gently as directed. Avoid scrubbing and pat it dry with a clean disposable towel.
  4. Moisturize lightlyWhen the tattoo is dry, use a small amount of the fragrance-free product recommended to you. More is not better.
  5. Let healing happenSome peeling and itching can occur. Do not scratch, pick, or pull at flaking skin.

Protect the area while it heals

Helpful

  • Wear clean, loose clothing around the tattoo
  • Keep bedding and anything touching the area clean
  • Use quick showers rather than soaking
  • Ask before using a product that was not recommended

Avoid

  • Swimming, hot tubs, baths, or saunas during the initial healing period
  • Direct sun and tanning equipment on the fresh tattoo
  • Picking, scratching, exfoliating, or shaving over it
  • Heavy layers of lotion, petroleum jelly, or unapproved ointments

When something does not feel right

Online information cannot diagnose a skin reaction or infection. Contact Felicia if you are unsure about the covering, routine, or appearance. Seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional for worsening pain, warmth, swelling, spreading redness, pus, fever, a significant allergic reaction, or any symptom that worries you.

If symptoms are severe or rapidly worsening, seek urgent medical help rather than waiting for an online reply.
